The Gas Industry Registration Scheme (GIRS) Download
The Gas Industry Registration Scheme (GIRS) has been developed to allow Utility Infrastructure Providers (UIP’s) to carry out installation, commissioning and connection of gas mains and services to be adopted by Gas Transporters (GTs). Any UIP wishing to carry out work must be accredited under this scheme.

The Water Industry Registration Scheme (WIRS) Download
The Water Industry Registration Scheme (WIRS) has been developed to allow contractors to carry out installation and commissioning of water mains and services to be adopted by the Water Utilities (WU). Any Self Lay Organisation (SLO) contracted to carry out contestable work (as defined by OFWAT and detailed in the National Self-Lay Code of Practice) can be accredited under this scheme.
Constructionline is a register for pre-qualified contractors and consultants used by the construction industry of the United Kingdom. The database contains details for over 23,000 companies and is accessed by over 2,000 organisations. IUS are Gold members of Constructionline, which requires being assessed against an enhanced prequalification question set that includes Environmental Management, Quality Management, Equalities and Diversity. Demonstrating to buyers that IUS have been subjected to increased scrutiny around governance and risk management.
Concom was established by The Humber Contractor Competency Forum to manage their contractor supply chain. This is achieved via a comprehensive system audit assessment of the management of health & safety, competence, quality, environmental and management of the supply chain.
SMAS is a recognised Safety Scheme in Procurement (SSIP) provided by the consultancy Safety Management Advisory Services Ltd. They have the necessary experience and expertise in new build construction and have developed a prequalification process used by many of the major UK house builders.
ISO45001 is an assessment specification for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. It was developed in response to the need for companies to meet their health and safety obligations in an efficient manner. IUS was one of the first contractors to attain this accreditation.

ANDY MACLENNAN - DIRECTOR
Andy leads the IUS senior management team, having gained considerable operational and commercial knowledge working in the rail and electricity distribution sectors. His leadership style and direction enable the IUS senior management team to take ownership of the strategy and performance of the business, setting realistic and sustainable growth aspirations. Andy is customer focused and values the importance of long-term relationships and repeat order business founded on a quality service at a competitive price.
TONY ASKINS - BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
Tony has worked in the industry for over 40 years and brings a wealth of operational and commercial experience to the business. As well as working in tendering and estimating, Tony has previously been a fully authorised Senior Authorised Person. He now leads the IUS Sales Hub team, generating new enquiries and seeking out potential clients, with an aim to sustainably grow our business.
BEN STOKOE - HEAD OF OPERATIONS
Ben has responsibility for the delivery of a diverse portfolio of works. This includes contestable connections, multi utility, distribution network operator infrastructure and a multitude of private systems. Ben must ensure that all works are delivered safely, on time, to budget and to the appropriate quality. Working in the industry for over 30 years, Ben has a broad knowledge of maintenance and construction activity for both underground and overhead networks. He also has a capable and experienced management team, whom he utilises to execute the works for our valued customers.
JAMIE ROBERTS - HEAD OF COMMERCIAL
Jamie’s background is that of a chartered Quantity Surveyor, having previously worked on large construction contracts as the main contractor for over 10 years. He acts as the commercial lead for the business and takes responsibility for developing the commercial, legal, procurement, tendering & estimating teams in pursuit of business growth. Ensuring the business seeks mutually beneficial work, as well as maintaining high standards throughout delivery, which is imperative to the success of IUS.

RICHARD READ - FINANCE MANAGER
Financial governance is an important factor in a well run business. As the Financial Manager, Richard is responsible for financial reporting as well as statutory compliance. He has been with IUS for almost 20 years and has a major part to play in the financial performance of the business. Richard works closely with the Head of Operations and the Head of Commercial, in ensuring tight cost controls and in driving efficient and profitable performance.
STEVE WALKER - HSQE MANAGER
IUS has a full-time dedicated HSQE team responsible for the management and implementation of legislation and policy throughout our contracts. The team is led by Steve, who has been with IUS for more than 15 years. Under Steve’s guidance the management systems, safety excellence and delivery capability have enabled us to attain the required international standards, accreditations and awards. Most importantly, IUS has a health and safety record to be proud of and the initiatives implemented by Steve and his team has resulted in an impressive performance.
IUS employ electrical fitters to carry out construction and maintenance activity in substations from Low Voltage through to 11/33/66 and 132kV. Our electrical fitters are trained and authorised to operate under IUS Electrical Safety Rules and will carry authorisation certificates detailing capability. This resource will have the necessary competence and experience to install High Voltage switchgear, transformers, Low Voltage panels, power and control cables including containment, earthing arrangements, battery and charger units and SCADA systems etc. The capability will also extend to inspection, maintenance and fault repair activity.
The IUS cable jointers carry out extensive cable jointing and terminating on a range of cables from Low Voltage through to 11/33/66 and 132kV. Our cable jointers are trained and authorised to operate under IUS Electrical Safety Rules and will carry authorisation certificates detailing capability. This resource will have the necessary competence and experience to work on a range of cable types and a variety of joints and terminations. The capability will also extend to cable fault diagnosis, location and subsequent repair.
IUS work extensively on overhead line networks at Low Voltage as well as 11kV and 33kV. The IUS overhead linesmen carry out inspection, shrouding, refurbishment and new construction activity. Our staff are trained and authorised to operate under IUS Electrical Safety Rules and will carry authorisation certificates detailing capability. This resource will have the necessary competence and experience to work on a range of overhead line network configurations. The capability will also extend to cable fault diagnosis, location and subsequent repair.
The role of the substation inspector is to visually inspect the condition of a High Voltage substation. This can include the fence, gate, access and egress. The management of vegetation. Signs of vermin and infestation. Building construction including doors, windows and ventilation. The potential for leaks. The condition of switchgear, transformers, cables, battery and charger units etc. The substation inspector will produce a report on the findings.
The IUS project manager will manage the scheme to operational completion and financial closure, and have overall responsibility for safety, quality, compliance and financial aspects of the scheme. The IUS project managers are fully conversant with procedural and regulatory compliance. The project manager will co-ordinate and direct the activities of all personnel towards successful completion, and to act as the primary point of liaison for the client. The individual will be trained in the phases of a project from conception through feasibility, evaluation, implementation, operation and completion, and will be familiar with the milestones associated with these phases.
The IUS project coordinator ensures materials are available on site and all health, safety and welfare aspects are in place. The project coordinator will also ensure that staff are briefed on the works, daily risk assessments are undertaken, quality checks are completed, results of work completed are recorded, the on-site planning of future works on the site are managed. The project coordinator will complete site audits and be the key link to site for the project manager. The project coordinator will supervise the on-site staff with regards to electrical safety whilst the electrical apparatus being installed is de-energised and ‘off rules’.
When working on High Voltage networks, one important aspect is the control of site safety. It is the Senior Authorised Person or SAP that carries significant responsibility, and the duty holder must have knowledge of the Electricity at Work Regulations; an understanding of High Voltage networks, switchgear types and how they operate; Electrical protection systems; Testing and commissioning requirements; Standby power systems; Safe working procedures, rules and safety documentation. Our SAP’s are trained, authorised and competent to manage the critical aspects of safety management. They will define the boundaries of the works and control site safety.
The electrical networks, which IUS operate on have a multitude of protection systems. This can range from time limit fuses and electromechanical relays through to complex electronic protection devices. The IUS protection engineers work on both construction and maintenance activity ensuring effective pre-commissioning and final commissioning testing, prior to energisation.
IUS has a direct design resource, which operate to defined quality system requirements and establishes and maintains a consistent approach to the design of electrical distribution systems. Our Design Engineers are suitably qualified and experienced staff, with the capability to design gas and water networks to complement our skills with electrical power. This ensures designs can be completed for electrical private infrastructure, contestable connections and multi utility for housing developments.
Within the HSQE section we have a fully qualified (IOSH Dip & IEMA) professional team of specialists, which include the HSQE Manager, HSQE Advisor, HSQE Lead Auditor, HSQE Coordinator, Accreditations & Standards Coordinator, Performance Reporting Assistant and a Training Administrator. The HSQE team are experienced, competent and committed in their support of every facet of the IUS operational delivery and customer support structure. They promote the health and safety culture within the business, advise and assist in all areas of HSQE management, including all behavioral safety aspects. The duties of the team also encompass training, health and colleague wellbeing.
Within the Commercial structure IUS has roles, which include Quantity Surveyor, Legal & Contracts Advisor, Tendering & Estimating Engineer, Tendering & Estimating Technician, HVCS Estimator and Procurement Coordinator. These commercial roles are centred around how contracts are secured, the management of commercial risk, procurement and cost control. The aim within commercial is to effectively calculate and control costs, whilst balancing commercial risk.
Within the Financial structure IUS has roles, which include Finance Manager, Accounting Assistants, Invoicing Clerks and Debt Clerks. These roles are all linked to compliance with Group policy on financial accounting. The aim within finance is to produce the business plan and track financial performance against the business plan, complying with all statutory requirements.
Within the IT structure IUS has roles, which include the IT Manager, Assistant IT Manager and IT Coordinator. These roles are all linked to the maintenance of an IT network, which functions seamlessly. The responsibility extends to the full IUS communications network, which includes an internal mobile phone system. Nick Storey “When IT is running well everyone is happy. Within the Business Development structure IUS has roles, which include the Business Development Manager, Sales and Business Development Coordinator. The aim of business development is to identify new customers and identify enquiries which can be bid and secured by the commercial team and delivered via IUS Operations. IUS utilise a ‘Sales Hub’ approach with all enquiries being directed into a centralised unit, which is under the responsibility of the Business Development Manager. All sales and marketing including the website and social media is managed through the Sales Hub.

An Accounting Assistant is required to provide accurate financial information and reports and undertake a full range of finance related duties.
A Quantity Surveyor is required to control the commercial functions within the IUS business. The successful candidate will support the business and take responsibility for the end-to-end commercial process for initially one large major project; further enhance the businesses commercial strength and margins by improving commercial reporting accuracy, cash flow, reducing risk in change control and WIP.
Tendering & Estimating Engineer
IUS is currently in search of a Tendering and Estimating Electrical Engineer to provide accurate and efficient cost estimates for projects located mainly within the UK. Reporting into the Tendering and Estimating Manager, the main responsibilities of this role will be to produce tenders, quotations and secure orders associated with all IUS workstreams.
EHV Senior Authorised Person
EHV Senior Authorised Persons are required to ensure the delivery of a number of key client’s projects. Experience of EHV and HV project delivery, EHV and HV maintenance and protection work is essential. The successful applicant will predominately be working on private networks, carrying out maintenance and protection works to the customer’s specifications.
