We are proud to be delivering on new framework contracts with Northern Powergrid, supporting essential infrastructure projects across the North East and beyond. These frameworks mark a significant milestone for IUS, reinforcing our reputation as a trusted provider of power engineering and network services. As we look ahead to 2026, we are expanding our teams and actively recruiting Fitters to help us deliver these critical projects.
Life on Site: Teamwork, Variety, and Growth
Our site teams are at the heart of what we do. and future-ready operation of the electricity network. From transformer replacements to switchgear upgrades, every project brings new challenges and opportunities to learn.
Paul Carr, one of our experienced Fitters, shared:
“No two days are the same on site. I like the variety the job brings and the opportunities to visit different sites and environments. Having the right people around you with the right experience, communicative, and collaborative, makes all the difference.”
Kevin Shearer, who has been with IUS for over 11 years, added:
“Being out and about in different places, meeting new people, from colleagues to customers, is one of the best parts of the job. Teamwork is key to working safely and efficiently. At the end of the day, we all want to get the job completed to a high standard and get home safely.”
Career Progression: From Fitter to SAP
At IUS, we believe in developing our people. Stewart Butchart’s journey is a great example of how far a career with us can take you. Stewart joined IUS 14 years ago as a fully qualified Fitter, later worked as a Project Coordinator, and is now training as a Senior Authorised Person (SAP).
Reflecting on his career progression, Stewart said:
“I really enjoyed working as a fitter, but it was time for a new challenge. My experience gave me a strong foundation to move into SAP training, and I’ve had great support from my line manager and the wider team.”
Stewart has been involved in projects across the North East and Scotland, including a recent bus depot project where unexpected issues on the local 11kV network required quick thinking and teamwork. He and the IUS team worked closely with the client, end user, and Distribution Network Operator to resolve the challenges and ensure the system was safely energised. Their efforts were formally recognised with thanks from the client.
Why Work for IUS?
